I'm curious about how different organizations handle the deployment of images on new laptops or desktops. Do you use ISO or WIM formats? How is the process set up at your job?

At my workplace, we PXE boot our images. We use an Intune image because our infrastructure engineer is having a hard time getting Intune Autopilot to work properly. Plus, our IT management is overly cautious and won't let us update past Windows version 23H2. It’s quite the circus here!
I opted for 23H2 at one point too because it was the last version with wmic installed. After that, any updates would eventually push an upgrade.
I still stick with SCCM for imaging. I have Task Sequences that configure endpoints based on their intended department. It’s quite intricate but efficient. We build our images from the base Windows install.wim and then customize it with necessary drivers and applications. The help desk handles the imaging process using PXE boot.
We primarily use SCCM for our imaging. Currently, desktop techs handle it directly. We're planning to switch to Intune soon though, which I think will be interesting!
What kind of image will you implement for Intune, since it doesn’t do OS reimaging?
Who created your current image? Did you use WIM or ISO for it?
With Autopilot and Intune for Windows, we generally consider managing these images a level 2 skill. It usually falls to helpdesk or junior level 3 technicians.
Has the task of creating the ISO/WIM fallen to Tier 2 now? I’m just curious!
These days, we pretty much just use Autopilot. It's streamlined everything for us and makes the deployment much easier!

Isn't 23H2 out of support now?
