Help Me Upgrade My PC: Total Noob Here!

I've been given a PC by a friend a couple of years ago and have only changed the GPU to play League of Legends, but I really want to upgrade it. I'm totally new to the whole PC specs game and I'm not really sure where to begin. I'm currently facing some issues like having only 40fps on medium graphics in League, a general delay when watching videos or playing low-level games like OSRS, slow startup times, and slow tab switching in Google. Plus, I think I might have installed my fans incorrectly, which shows how little I know about this stuff! My goals are to boost my FPS for gaming and reduce lag with multiple programs while speeding up startup times. Here are my current specs:

- GPU: ASUS Geforce GT1030
- CPU: Intel i7-4790
- RAM: Gskill Sniper 16GB
- Storage: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 500GB
- Motherboard: AS Rock Z97 Killer

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, if you’re planning on long-term performance, it may be worth considering a full rebuild, but if you're on a budget right now, putting in a good GPU can help until you're ready to upgrade everything else. Something like a 2060 would be a solid choice. Just keep in mind a rebuild is in your future plans!

Definitely a long-term goal for me! But money is tight right now. Haha!

There seems to be something off with your PC. A GeForce 1030 should yield more than 100fps in League, especially at 1080p. You might want to check your settings or drivers. Have you updated your graphics drivers recently?

Yeah, I have a 1080p monitor. I used to hover around 70+ fps, but it plummeted to around 30 during team fights. Not sure what happened!

Upgrading your GPU is a no-brainer since the GT1030 is pretty weak for gaming. A midrange GPU would be a fantastic choice to start with. Just check if your power supply unit (PSU) has enough wattage to support it. Also, for the sluggish startup, try disabling unnecessary startup applications and removing unused programs.

I figured a GPU upgrade would be a good start. How can I check if my PSU is good enough? Any specific GPU models you recommend for my setup? I’m trying to declutter my startup as well, but it still doesn't feel ideal.
