I'm upgrading my 8-year-old PC primarily to boost FPS in games like Deadlock, Valorant, and Overwatch while playing at 1080p competitive settings with a 144Hz refresh rate. I'm holding off on a completely new build due to the crazy prices right now.
Here are my current specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
- GPU: RTX 2070
- Mobo: ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming
- RAM: 16GB (2x8) G.Skill Trident Z 3200MHz
I'm considering upgrading to either a Ryzen 5 5600 (around €110) or a Ryzen 7 5800XT (around €200). I'm also looking into coolers: Thermalright Assassin X (about €20) vs. Phantom Spirit (around €40).
My main questions are:
1. Will the 5600 provide stable 144+ FPS in Deadlock, or is the 5800XT worth the extra €90?
2. Should I invest in 32GB DDR4 kits at €180, or stick with my current RAM?
3. Is my old motherboard okay for running the 5800XT?
I'm looking for the best performance-to-price ratio. Thanks!

I'd suggest looking at the Ryzen 5700X too. It's around €150, which is a nice middle ground, plus it has 8 cores, giving you a bit more power than the 5600. Just remember, you'll need a BIOS update for your B450 motherboard to support Ryzen 5000 processors.
Consider the 5500X3D as another option; you might find good deals online, even on platforms like AliExpress. As for the cooler, I prefer the Phantom Spirit, and you should be good with the BIOS update using your 2600.
The performance difference between the 5600 and the 5800XT in gaming is fairly close, but the 5800XT does have a higher clock speed. If you're planning to stick with AM4 for a while, then the 5800XT is a solid choice. For cooling, the 5600 won't need much, but the 5800XT can run hotter, so investing in a good cooler is worthwhile. Your motherboard works fine with your current setup, but consider a B550 board for future GPU upgrades to take advantage of PCIe Gen 4.
