Struggling with Coding as a Newbie – Need Advice

I've recently made the decision to start learning how to code, but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. With no prior knowledge and a full-time job, I'm doing my best to keep up. I've been following a JavaScript tutorial and have managed to clock about 10 hours in three months. However, my biggest issue is retaining what I learn; I often find myself forgetting key fundamentals and end up restarting the tutorial multiple times. I want to improve, but I just can't seem to stay consistent—there are days when I can dedicate 2 to 3 hours, but it's hard to commit every day. I feel really frustrated and sometimes think I must be slow or not cut out for this. It would be awesome to connect with someone else who's going through a similar struggle or to have some guidance. Any advice or suggestions?

It's important to remember that watching tutorials alone won't make you a coder. You need hands-on practice to really learn. Instead of just following along, try to find a tutorial that encourages you to solve problems on your own. It might help to start small projects or exercises that force you to apply what you're learning. That way, the concepts will really stick with you.

First off, don’t feel bad about struggling; that’s totally normal for beginners! Instead of restarting the tutorial, focus on building little projects, even if they’re not perfect. Also, don’t stress about memorizing everything. Even experienced developers look things up constantly. Consider using tools like AI to help troubleshoot your code or explain things you’re stuck on. What's key is that you keep pushing forward without overwhelming yourself.

You mentioned you have 2-3 hours a day for learning, which is great! Try to make the most of that time by cutting out distractions and focusing on coding instead of just watching. Maybe create a small project once you finish the course to apply what you've learned. It's a fantastic way to reinforce your skills and gain confidence.
