Looking to Upgrade My PC for Gaming – Any Suggestions?

Hey folks! I'm aiming to upgrade my old gaming PC that I built back in 2020. Here are my current specs:
- CPU: Intel i5 (not sure which one, bought it in 2020)
- GPU: RTX 1660
- RAM: 16GB DDR4

I'm particularly looking to upgrade the CPU and GPU. However, I'm curious if switching to DDR5 RAM is worth it since I'd need a new motherboard as well. My budget is around £750, but I can stretch it to £1000 if necessary. By the way, I already have a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, so I only need the upgrades. If you need more info, just let me know! Thanks a lot for the help!

If you have a power supply of 750W or more, I suggest going for an RTX 3080. It does consume 320W, but with some undervolting, you might get it down to around 220W. Definitely worth it for the performance!

I'm about to sell some great components: a 5700X3D CPU, 32GB 3600 RAM, an MSI MAG B550M motherboard, along with a cooler and a case. I can offer everything for around £400 if you're open to picking it up in Manchester!

Considering your situation, upgrading your GPU might be your best bet. A good option would be to look into an Intel B580 or a 9060 XT with 16GB. Just make sure your RAM is in dual channel (i.e., two sticks) to maximize performance. This will give you a nice boost without breaking the bank.

Take a look at this build I found: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/qwxgw3. It suggests reusing your 16GB DDR4 RAM and old SSD, while adding a 16GB VRAM GPU and a new CPU. It can optimize your current setup without starting from scratch, assuming your case and PSU are good enough.

First off, check which Intel i5 you currently have by going into Task Manager and looking under the CPU section. Also, it’s important to know what games you plan to play—are you going for AAA titles or esports? Your goals for resolution and FPS will significantly influence my recommendations. With your budget, a full upgrade to DDR5 along with a new CPU and GPU might not be balanced, so keep that in mind.
