Is it safe to use my phone while it’s plugged in?

I recently purchased a 17 Pro Max and primarily used it over the weekend while sitting at my desk or lounging on the couch. I set a charge limit of 90% and activated optimized battery charging. I noticed that even after using the phone for about two hours while it was plugged in, my daily battery usage didn't really change. I'm wondering if this way of using the phone could cause any long-term damage. When I plug it in, does the power management unit stop charging the battery and run the phone directly from the outlet instead? Is this method safe for the device's health?

Honestly, just use your phone without overthinking it. In Turkey, these devices can get pricey, and they tend to hold their value well in the second-hand market. High battery cycle counts can impact that, so I get your concern, but the worry shouldn't overshadow your enjoyment of the device. You paid for it, so make the most of it!

Got it! I just feel like everything I read makes me question how I should treat my devices. Thanks for the advice!

I get why you're cautious, but you shouldn't stress too much about the battery. If you're enjoying it, that's what counts. The battery will depreciate in value over time anyway, and when it's time for a replacement, the cost spread over all the good times you've had will be minimal!

Exactly! Sometimes it feels like I can't justify the cost, but if it's making life better, it's worth it. Thanks for the perspective!

I'm just worried since I dropped a lot on it! But your point makes me feel better.

From my experience with Macs, it’ll show "Power Source: Power Adapter." I assume it works similarly with phones. If using it while plugged in was harmful, Apple wouldn’t allow it. It's designed to bypass the battery when plugged in, so you should be fine!

Do you know if Apple has any official articles on this? I couldn’t find any, and it would be great to see some solid info from them about battery health!
