Best Tablet or Notebook Recommendations for an Elderly Parent

I'm searching for a suitable tablet or notebook for my elderly mom who has dementia. My goal is to keep this device continuously on, so I can remotely control it to load movies, pictures, and videos for her to watch. Ideally, I want her to be able to use her finger to easily select and play the media. I'm considering setting it up with a simple Windows interface that has large icons for easier navigation. It's crucial that I have full remote control of the device since I live far away. Additionally, I need it to be in a standing position for her to access it easily. I've come across remote software options like TeamViewer and Splashtop—I'm leaning towards Splashtop but would appreciate any directions or suggestions.

Maybe consider using an Alexa-enabled device like the Fire tablet. You can control it from your end, and it has voice capabilities, making it user-friendly for her. I've managed to communicate with my mom through her Fire tablet, even from two and a half hours away!

After trying all sorts of tablets, I found that iPads are the easiest and most reliable for my parents. I use shortcuts to create one-touch icons, which minimizes their tech frustrations. Plus, sharing and loading content with a family plan is super easy! We usually use Zoom or TeamViewer for remote control.

Splashtop is a solid choice, but remember you'll need the premium subscription for remote control on a different network. For loading content from afar, I'm not sure if Splashtop can do that. Have you thought about setting up a Plex server on your end? That might be a good option too.

I recommend NoMachine—it works well on Windows, MacOS, and Linux, and you can access it from various devices like iOS and Android. It's been great for me with ZeroTier setup, giving me access from anywhere.

I've been using TeamViewer for this purpose for years, and it's worked great for PCs. It's a reliable option!
