Is Upgrading from RTX 3060 to 3060 Ti a Good Move for My PC?

I'm contemplating whether to upgrade my RTX 3060 to a 3060 Ti. I know the 3060 Ti offers significantly better performance, but my main concern is whether my 550W PSU will be sufficient for it. I want a small upgrade to keep my PC relevant for a bit longer without spending too much. Here are my current specs:
- Ryzen 5 5600X with an NZXT Kraken 120 cooler
- MSI B350M Gaming Pro motherboard
- 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 RAM
- 1TB M.2 SSD and 2TB HDD
- NZXT H510 Flow case with one intake and one exhaust fan
- Thermaltake TR2 S 550W PSU
- Currently using the RTX 3060.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Honestly, I'd say wait a bit and save your cash. Upgrading to the 3060 Ti isn't really worth it right now unless someone just hands it to you for free. You'd still end up with a two-gen-old GPU, and that's just not smart.

Don't rush into the upgrade. The performance difference is about 30%, which is nice but not a huge leap. If you can, check out the 3070 too—it gives about 50% better performance and might not be much more expensive than the 3060 Ti right now. Just make sure your PSU can handle whatever you choose!

If you're gaming at 1080p, you might actually be fine sticking with your 3060. Some games actually utilize more VRAM, and the 3060 has 12GB while the Ti only has 8GB. Depending on what you're playing, that might actually lower your performance with the Ti.

If you're mainly after a slight upgrade, consider undervolting and overclocking your existing 3060. It's a great way to nudge performance without spending any money. You might get somewhere between your current performance and that of the Ti with the right tweaks.

Great idea! I’ll definitely check out some tutorials on overclocking. Thanks!

I agree with the others. The upgrade isn't worth it—especially considering your 3060 is still pretty decent. Plus, it's not just about the card itself; your PSU might struggle with the 3060 Ti. They recommend at least a 650W PSU for it, and yours is rated lower than that. You might want to upgrade your PSU first, or even consider saving up for a better card like the 5060.

Thanks for the heads-up! I didn't realize the PSU was a potential issue. I'm going to look into that first.
