Hey everyone! I'm transitioning away from Microsoft and US software, but I still have Windows running on all my devices. Unfortunately, my trusty notebook's display broke after six years (totally my fault), and it has accumulated enough travel wear to warrant retirement. I'm in the market for a new laptop and have some specific requirements:
- My budget is €1500.
- I want an OLED touchscreen (so Framework is out of the question).
- The screen should have a 16:10 aspect ratio and be between 13" to 14.4".
- It should ideally have fingerprint unlock or Windows Hello capabilities for Linux.
- Lastly, I'm looking for something light and thin for travel, with battery life being a secondary consideration.
Any recommendations?

Just a heads-up, this seems more focused on hardware than on Linux specifically. But if you're looking for a laptop, just make sure the hardware supports Linux well, as some can be a bit tricky.
A MacBook Air or Pro might come to mind, but keep in mind they don’t have touchscreens, which would be a dealbreaker for you.
You should definitely check out some laptops from Tuxedo (Germany), System76 (US), and Slimbook (Spain). These companies are known for making hardware that works well with Linux and even support it actively. Plus, many of their models let you dual boot with Windows if you need that option while you get accustomed to Linux. Tuxedo and Slimbook especially have reasonable prices and offer various keyboard layouts too!
I hadn’t considered Slimbook before. Good tip!

Yeah, no touchscreen makes them a no-go for me.
