Is My 700W PSU Enough for an RTX 5070 Ti Upgrade?

I'm looking to upgrade from my GTX 1080 to an RTX 5070 Ti and I'm concerned about whether my power supply can handle it. My current specs are an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, 32GB of RAM, and 5 drives (3 SSDs and 2 HDDs). My PSU is a Zalman ZM700-LX II, which is rated at 700W, but I know the new GPU will demand more power. I'm especially worried about stability during heavy loads, especially since I run a 4K monitor. Additionally, I'm unsure if using an adapter for the 12VHPWR cable is safe. I'd appreciate any insights or experiences from anyone with a similar setup!

You might want to consider GPUs like the 9070 or 9070XT instead. They often perform better under similar conditions and could save you some cash, allowing you to get a better PSU or even a CPU upgrade. Just a thought!

Yeah, but even those cards could be tricky with that PSU. Upgrading your power supply should definitely be the priority!

Honestly, I wouldn't risk it with that PSU. It's considered a budget-tier unit that's not the best for high-end GPUs. You'd be better off getting at least an 850W PSU, especially one from a reputable brand like Corsair or Seasonic. It's cheap insurance for a GPU that costs as much as the RTX 5070 Ti.

You're right to be cautious. The 5070 Ti can pull over 300W under load, and with your other components, you might hit 500-550W total. That said, 700W on paper isn't dangerous, but budget PSUs can struggle to deliver clean power, leading to crashes. I’d recommend sticking with a PSU that has a native 16-pin cable instead of relying on an adapter for the 12VHPWR. It’s all about safety for your investment!

Yeah, I wouldn’t trust that PSU for the 5070 Ti. Modern GPUs can spike a lot under load, and the Zalman might not keep up. It's definitely worth considering an upgrade there.
