Why is my CPU temperature so low while experiencing low FPS in games?

I'm puzzled by my CPU temperature not exceeding 50°C and how that might relate to my gaming performance. I've been experiencing low FPS, especially in games like Death Stranding 2, where I'm struggling to maintain 40 FPS despite having decent specs: a Ryzen 7 1700X, GTX 3070, 32 GB of RAM, and a B350M-A motherboard. My suspicion is that my CPU isn't operating at its full potential. I'm unsure if this might be due to BIOS settings or some other issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

There could be several reasons behind your low FPS. If your CPU is being limited by BIOS settings, or if your GPU is working hard while your CPU is just waiting, that might explain the performance gap. Be sure to monitor both CPU and GPU usage while gaming to get a clearer picture.

It sounds like your Turbo might be disabled or you could just have a really good cooler on a lower-end CPU. Make sure to check your BIOS settings to see if anything’s limiting your performance.

If it's really a Ryzen 7 1700X, you might be running into a CPU bottleneck, especially at 1080p. The RTX 3070 is capable, but it can struggle if your settings are maxed out. Consider using tools like RivaTuner to check the CPU usage and clock speeds while gaming.

Honestly, a 3070 is going to be bottlenecked by a 1700X. You’d probably have better results even with an older i7 like the 4790K. It might be worth it to look into an upgrade to a 5500X3D, which could significantly boost your FPS. Also, keep an eye on your CPU clock speeds while playing—anything above 3.4GHz is typically fine!
