I'm thinking about installing several Linux distributions on my laptop and setting it up to triple or even quadruple boot, sharing the same /home partition. Are there any potential downsides to this setup that I should be aware of before I go through with it?

One thing to consider is that different Linux distributions may have varying software versions. If you create files in a newer version of software, an older version from another distro might not be able to open those files. By the way, what are you hoping to gain from this? If you want to explore various distros, using containers might be a better approach.
In theory, there's no major downside, but having multiple distros isn't super common. Most folks typically just distro-hop while keeping their /home partition intact. However, it does mean your file manager will display those extra partitions when you boot up.
I just want to do some distro-hopping without losing my main OS. I want to check out different options and see what they offer without fully committing to a switch.
