Why is my old gaming PC getting low FPS in competitive games?

I recently took my son's old gaming rig for some casual gaming when he's not using it. I'm mainly playing CSGO, CS2, and PUBG. However, I'm facing a huge drop in performance while playing PUBG, where my FPS fluctuates between 30 and 150, but mostly sticks around 70, making it unplayable. I'm unsure if I should be getting better performance given the parts I have. Even with all graphics settings set to LOW, I'm struggling. Here's what I have:

- Freshly installed Windows 11 (using Rufus)
- Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core at 4.00 GHz
- ROG Strix x570-F motherboard
- 2x32 GB DDR4 memory at 1798 MHz (sourced from work)
- Nvidia Geforce RTX 3090

I've updated the BIOS, installed the latest Nvidia drivers, and only have Steam and the two games installed. I'm looking for the most budget-friendly tips to boost my FPS and understand what could be causing this bottleneck. I also have some DDR5 8GB sticks lying around. Any advice?

You’ve got a really solid workstation here, but it looks like your RAM might be dragging performance down. I’d suggest upgrading to 32GB of faster DDR4 RAM for some improvements. If you're open to investing further, your CPU could also become a bottleneck for those competitive FPS games. An upgrade to an X3D CPU might give you a significant boost.

It sounds like ve-sync might be your enemy. Try turning it off along with lowering some graphics settings. Just to let you know, I have a slightly weaker setup, and wasn’t facing these issues. Also, check if you have any game optimizers running. Your RAM speed could be holding you back, so that might be something to look into.
