I recently came across some older electronics while cleaning, and it got me wondering about the safety of old power adapters after finding some. I've checked my batteries, and they're either recycled or inspected. However, I have several old power adapters from laptops and other devices that I don't need anymore. They haven't been plugged in for years, so I'm curious—do they pose any risk if they're just sitting around?

As long as they’re not plugged in, old power adapters are generally safe. The real risk would be if you dropped one on your foot! But seriously, they shouldn't cause any harm just sitting there.
They mostly consist of coils of wire, so the chance of them causing issues is low. Just make sure they're not physically damaged. By the way, what's a spicy pillow?
Old chargers are generally fine. Sometimes they have a capacitor that can hold a charge, but usually for just a brief time. Many adapters use a bleeder resistor to safely discharge them quickly.
Old adapters usually don't have batteries, so unless someone tries to mess with the voltage, there shouldn’t be a risk. If there's something wrong with them, you might notice a smell, but that's about it.
