I'm looking for recommendations on the best non-X3D AM4 CPU available in Australia for under $500. Finding the X3D models has become quite difficult. Additionally, I want to know if the RX 6600 is a decent option for shader tasks rather than traditional AAA gaming.

At this price range, you might want to consider going Intel. I've put together a build with the i5-12600K and added a cooler along with a compatible motherboard. The total comes to $499.52, which includes everything! Check it out for a solid option.
There's also the 5500X3D available on AliExpress for under 300 AUD, which might outperform the 12600K on DDR4.
If you're considering options, the 5800XT is a solid pick at around 400 AUD, but you might also look at the 5700X or 5800X, which can be found for less than 320 AUD. They offer only slightly worse performance, which could be a great choice if you're budget-conscious.
What do you think would work best for 1440p gaming?
Should I aim for the 5700 or the 5800X instead?
You can find the 5500X3D on AliExpress for less than 300 AUD delivered. It's a great budget option!
Totally agree! AliExpress regularly has promotions, so if you can wait, there might be some discount codes available soon.

I assume you're suggesting this because OP is already on AM4? Maybe saving money until future upgrades is smarter.
