Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing well. I recently decided to oil my laptop fan and used haircut razor oil. I'm a bit worried now that this might lead to some malfunctions. Is using this type of oil a bad idea for laptop fans?

Back in the day, we used to lubricate PC fans, but these days, a lot of fans come with sealed units and plastic bearings instead of metal. Once they wear out, it's much easier to replace the whole fan rather than trying to lubricate it.

Using razor oil isn't suitable for laptop fans. It can actually damage the bearings. You're better off cleaning the fan and using a lightweight lubricating oil that's safe for electronics.

From what I know, laptop fan bearings are usually sealed and adding any type of oil might not actually help. It could even cause more issues. I'd suggest avoiding any unnecessary lubrication unless it's specifically designed for electronics.
