Can I Get My Father’s Apple Laptops Unlocked?

My father has Alzheimer's and can't remember the passwords for his two Apple laptops. We've decided to bring one to him in a specialized care facility since he enjoys writing when he's lucid. However, we can't access the laptops because he forgot the passwords he used for them. My sister and I have power of attorney, so we can act on his behalf. Is there any way to have Apple unlock them if we take them to the store, or are they basically useless at this point?

Resetting the login password is pretty straightforward on the laptops, but you'll still need the Apple ID account password. If you can't retrieve that, Apple won't be able to help directly in-store. Just a heads up! But if you can get the Apple ID password reset, the login passwords are easier to handle.

He doesn't remember any of his passwords, including the Apple ID. We're a bit hesitant to try anything ourselves because we're scared of getting locked out.

Unfortunately, Apple won't unlock the devices for you. They typically don't assist with password recovery in-store during situations like this. It's a bit of a bummer, I know.
