I'm trying to back up my photos manually, and I've already saved some from my old phone to my Windows PC. Now that I've switched to an iPhone SE (3rd gen), I found that iCloud insists on backing up every single photo I have, which I can't afford space for—plus, I'm not keen on paying for extra storage. Is there any way to choose specific images to upload instead? I've also attempted a USB transfer, but that keeps crashing and doesn't work.

Honestly, I think you might be better off just paying that $0.99 a month for iCloud storage. It’s a pretty small price to pay for the peace of mind that comes with not losing your photos. You can always back them up elsewhere later. Just let everything upload to iCloud for the moment.
That's a fair point, but it still doesn't address how to upload only certain photos. I’m really looking for a way around this.
