I'm currently using an RTX 3070 and a Ryzen 3700X, paired with a 27-inch 144 Hz monitor. I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU to a 5800X and possibly getting a new monitor. Given my usage, which mainly includes shooter games like Arc Raiders and Valorant, do you think I should stick with 1080p, or would the 3070 and 5800X combo be good for gaming at 1440p?

If you’re thinking of upgrading the GPU in the future, it might be worth it to go for a 1440p monitor now. A 27-inch monitor is perfect for that resolution, plus 1080p might look too big on a screen that size. The RTX 3070 can handle 1440p decently; just keep in mind that VRAM could be an issue for newer titles down the road.
The 3070 works fine for 1440p. Upgrading to the 5800X will improve your CPU performance, but remember this setup is getting dated. Still, for the price, it maximizes your old AM4 setup's potential.
My buddy has a 3070, and he says it's working well at 1440p for him. But keep in mind, newer AAA games might push the limits.
Instead of upgrading your CPU, consider investing in a better GPU. At 1440p, the GPU takes on most of the workload, so it's more beneficial. A solid recommendation would be the RX 9060 XT 16GB; it can handle most shooters at 100FPS in 1440p easily.
Saving up for a better GPU instead of the CPU would be a smarter choice. Or if you can swing it, upgrade both at the same time for a more balanced setup.
