Which CPU Bundle is Best for Upgrading My HTPC?

I'm looking to upgrade my home theater PC (HTPC) that my family uses to watch movies and that my significant other occasionally plays some games on. We don't use it often, maybe a few times a month, but I want to modernize it, especially since I live near a Microcenter. I currently have a high-performance PC featuring a Ryzen 7700 CPU, 32GB of RAM, and a Gigabyte B650 motherboard. Microcenter has several bundles available: 1) 7500X3D with a randomly selected mATX motherboard and 16GB of DDR5 for $330; 2) 7600X3D with an ASUS B650E MAX Gaming WiFi motherboard and 16GB of DDR4 for $380; 3) 7800X3D with an ASUS B850-E TUF Gaming WiFi motherboard and 32GB of DDR5 for $660. I'm torn between the cheaper options (7500X3D or 7600X3D) to save money and potentially upgrade the RAM later. Some people suggest the 7800X3D is a better long-term investment due to the extra RAM and CPU performance. But given how little we use this HTPC compared to my main gaming rig, is the 7800X3D bundle worth it? Or should I stick with one of the cheaper bundles?

Yeah, definitely go for the 7800X3D! Upgrade your main PC and toss your old CPU into the HTPC. That sounds like a great plan!

I wouldn’t bother with the 7800X3D at those prices. You could get two 7500X3D bundles, sell off the extra CPU and motherboard, and still be fine with 16GB for the HTPC. It’s more than enough for occasional use.

If you're gonna spend on the 7800X3D, you might as well upgrade your PC. I’d get that bundle and then just sell the extra RAM for some cash back. Or consider the 7600X3D and steal the motherboard. Just remember, dropping from 8 cores to 6 isn’t a guaranteed win in every game.

Honestly, I'd stick with the cheapest bundle. The 7500X3D can still handle gaming at 60fps for years to come, so it could be all you need!

I'd recommend going for the 7800X3D combo. You could even swap it into your gaming PC for a nice upgrade, especially since the B850 motherboard will support PCIe 5 for your graphics card. The HTPC will be powerful enough for what you need!
