How to Fix External Monitor Not Displaying Correct Resolution?

I'm having a tough time getting my laptop to play nice with my external monitor. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad L15 Gen 2 with an Intel i5-1145G7 processor, Intel iRIS Xe Graphics, and 32 GB of RAM. The monitor is a Gigabyte G34WQC, which supports a resolution of 3440 x 1440. I'm running Windows 11 Pro.

The issue I'm facing is that when I connect my monitor, the available resolutions in the Windows Display Settings include 3840 x 2160 and 2560 x 1440, but 3440 x 1440 isn't listed. I've tried the connection with a High Speed HDMI Cable, rebooted my devices multiple times, and updated drivers, but with no luck. Even when I try to set the resolution manually through the Intel Graphics Command Center, I get an error message. I can see the correct resolution is listed as supported in the info section, but it's just not applying correctly. The scaling is all wrong, and I can select resolutions higher than what the monitor actually supports.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this and set the correct resolution?

It sounds like you might be dealing with a compatibility issue or possibly a cable problem. First, I'd suggest getting a new cable from a reputable brand, just to rule that out. HDMI can be particularly troublesome with ultrawide monitors. If you've got the option, try using a USB-C to DisplayPort cable; I've seen that work better with these setups. Also, check if there's a driver for the monitor on the manufacturer's website. Setting the refresh rate to 60 Hz in the Intel Graphics Command Center might help, and be sure to look for any CVT-RB settings that could impact the resolution. Let me know what works for you!

Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely grab a new Ultra High Speed HDMI cable and a USB-C to DisplayPort cable to try out. I did check for drivers, but they just changed the name in Device Manager to ‘GIGABYTE G34WQC A,’ which didn't help with the resolution. I’ll experiment with the refresh rate setting too. Apprecate the advice!
