What software options are best for managing endpoint applications and updates?

I'm new at my current job and they want to know how to install or push application updates on endpoints. In my previous position, we used something like a software center that allowed me to search for applications to install or update beyond the standard Office apps. At my last workplace, we utilized various tools for ticketing, monitoring, patching Windows, and installing applications. I'm not entirely sure what to look for since my background is in networking. Right now, we have Entra and Active Directory set up, but not Intune. We've been using a ticketing system called SysAid. I've heard about NinjaOne, but it seems quite pricey. Personally, I'd prefer using a different app for documentation (like NetBox), a different monitoring tool like PRTG, JIRA for ticketing, and using SCCM for pushing updates, even though I'm not sure how to set that up yet.

There are plenty of options available, but I would highly advise against anything from Ivanti. It's both overpriced and notoriously ineffective.

A client I worked with recently opted for PDQ Deploy and Inventory, which has been great for managing updates without SCCM. It's intuitive and user-friendly, making it much easier to implement.

I've used SCCM for years, but I wouldn’t recommend starting with that if you’re new. You might want to check out Tanium, which offers comprehensive solutions for software deployment, patching, and monitoring at a better price point. ManageEngine Desktop Central is another great option with a free trial to test it out in your environment.

It sounds like you might be referring to SCCM or the Intune Company Portal. If you're integrated with Entra and Active Directory without Intune, it’s important to determine if you need comprehensive endpoint management or just need a solution for patching and app deployment. Tools like NinjaOne or Action1 can facilitate quicker solutions compared to the complexities of setting up SCCM just for software cataloging.
