I'm diving into a new build and I've narrowed down my choices for motherboards. I'm running a 9950X3D CPU with an RTX 5080 GPU, and it's crucial for me to have the right lanes and ports for both filmmaking and gaming. Here are the options I've come across: **MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI**, **ASUS ROG STRIX X870-F GAMING**, **MSI PRO X870-P WIFI**, **Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7**, and **MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI**. I'd love to hear your recommendations based on my needs!

I noticed some of these boards come with WiFi 7 through the MT7925 M.2, which can be picked up separately with antennas for about £30. A great option if you’re into fast wireless connections.
All these boards are great choices! If lanes and USB support are top priorities, I'd say go for the Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7. It’s got an awesome amount of I/O and provides full lane support. Just a heads up, it lacks RGB if that’s important to you.
I’m currently working on two builds myself—one with a Z790-E and another with an X870-F. I think I made the right choice for my 9930X3D with the X870-F, serves my needs perfectly!
For your setup, I’d recommend sticking with either the MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK or the Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7. Both provide excellent VRM, lane support, and future-proofing for your 9950X3D and 5080 combo. The ROG board is solid too but often overpriced for what it offers.
I have the same CPU paired with an RTX 4090 and chose the MSI MPG X870E Carbon. At the end of the day, if a motherboard has all the necessary ports and slots, most will work similarly for your needs. Design and personal budget also played a big role in my choice.
