Help! Proxmox VM Sessions Freezing – Any Solutions?

Hey folks, I've run into a puzzling issue with user sessions on our Proxmox VMs running Windows Server 2019 and Microsoft RDS. The sessions freeze without warning, making the virtual desktop completely unresponsive and, frustratingly, no input is registered. Even if an admin closes an application or service, the session remains frozen upon reopening. All our systems, including Proxmox, Windows Server, and VirtIO drivers, are updated, yet the freezing happens at random – sometimes right after connecting and other times while users are actively working. What's odd is that different users get hit with this issue, but usually only one user at a time; others nearby can keep working without issues. This problem has popped up across several clients with varying network setups, and despite our efforts, we can't pinpoint the cause. The Microsoft event logs aren't showing anything abnormal. Any ideas on what might be going wrong?

What CPU type is set for your VM? I've had some sluggishness with the Host type. Switching to x86-64 (and selecting the appropriate version) worked better for me. Might be worth a shot!

You might want to try disabling UDP for RDP. If you look for the registry entry "fClientDisableUDP" and set it, it could help with the freezing issue.

Have you checked the host logs? There's a similar issue discussed in an older thread on Proxmox's forum regarding I/O changes that seems promising. Also, see if you have the latest version; patches may exist for older versions that could be causing the freezes.
