I'm trying to pick a lightweight Linux distribution for my old Lenovo X131e laptop that I want to give to my dad. He'll mostly use it for browsing, watching movies, and file transfers, so performance is key. I tested a few distros like MX Linux and Zorin Lite, but they were slower than Linux Mint XFCE. Here are my specs: CPU - AMD E2-1800 APU @ 2x 1.7GHz, RAM - 8GB DDR3, Storage - 128GB SSD, GPU - AMD Radeon HD 7340, Display - 11.6" 1366x768. I need something faster than Linux Mint that won't keep him waiting, especially since I have fast internet. I also considered FyreOS, but it seems outdated for this machine. What are your thoughts on Butterbian? If all else fails, I might set it up as a server with Debian and CasaOS, but I'd prefer it to be snappy for everyday use like Facebook, YouTube, and file transfers. Any suggestions?

I think your experience with MX Linux is surprising considering it's usually pretty speedy, especially with XFCE. You might want to check out alternatives like Bunsen Labs or Antix—both are lightweight and built off Debian. They could give you a boost in performance!
Honestly, with those specs, you might be hitting a wall when it comes to loading modern websites quickly, no matter the distro you choose. You could give Antix or Lubuntu a shot. They seem to work pretty well on older hardware.
Have you tried Garuda KDE Lite? It's designed to be minimal and quick, and the KDE Plasma environment is pretty snappy. Might be worth a look!
