Hey everyone! I've just received a server for a 90-day period and I'm looking to set up a proof of concept (POC). Before diving in, I have a few questions: Should I set this up in a production environment, or is a separate test network a better choice? Also, does this solution support Entra ID on its own, or is Windows Active Directory necessary? Can I migrate existing VMware VMs to Azure Local, and what kind of performance can I expect after the migration? Lastly, what's the best approach to effectively plan and execute this POC? Thanks in advance!

I have to disagree with the notion that Azure Local isn't a virtualization product. It basically combines Hyper-V with software-defined storage. And regarding migration, Azure Migrate does actually support migrating VMware VMs to Azure Local, which is a valid option for POCs too.
You definitely want to avoid testing this in production. If you can, create a test tenant instead. Trust me, one small mistake could lead to spinning up an unexpected huge VM instance in the cloud that your finance team never budgeted for! Also, just so you know, Azure Local isn't a virtualization platform like you might think; it's more like SCOM but with a user-friendly Azure Portal interface. For migrating from VMware, you'll need to convert VMs from ESXi to Hyper-V, and there are tools that can help with that migration, but it's not a direct transfer to Azure Local.
