I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and I'm trying to decide between the Ryzen 5 5600XT and the Ryzen 7 5800XT. Both seem to be available for about the same price range of $280-300 CAD here in Canada. Currently, I have a 650W power supply and an MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus motherboard, paired with an old Ryzen 7 2700. I'm particularly interested in which processor would give me better performance in my setup.

Confirm on MSI's website that the 5800XT is compatible with your version of the MPG B550 Gaming Plus and check the required BIOS version. You’ll need to use your 2700 to update the BIOS before installing the new CPU. By the way, which GPU do you have now?
I'd recommend the 5800XT too. The 5000 series is already getting older, and for future-proofing, those extra cores will really help with performance in the latest titles.
Yeah, but prices here are crazy! I've seen the R7 7800XT at $500 CAD and up. It looks like the 5800XT is the best deal for now!
If they're both around the same price, go with the one with more cores! You might also want to look into the 5500X3D if you come across it for a similar price, it’s worth considering.
I will definitely look into that, thanks!
I have the 5600X and it's been solid, but if the price difference is minimal, definitely get the 5800XT. Just make sure your BIOS is updated so it supports the new CPU!
I checked, and my motherboard supports it. I just need to update the BIOS if necessary.
If the prices are similar, go for the Ryzen 7 5800XT. It's the better choice for long-term performance since it has more cores, which is important for newer games!
Perfect! Thank you! I will check out the 5500X3D but I'm leaning towards the 5800XT now!
Honestly, for just a bit more money, you should grab the Ryzen 7 5800XT. It has 8 cores and 16 threads compared to the 6 cores of the 5600XT. More cores mean better performance!

It's an AMD Radeon RX 7600. Should I check for any updates for that too?
