Looking for a Good Tablet Under $500 for Writing and Browsing

Hey everyone! I'm in the market for a tablet that fits my budget of $500 or less. I'm 39 years old and have a few must-haves: I need it for general browsing on Wi-Fi, casual mobile games (think Fruit Ninja), and I'd like to use a wireless keyboard for some writing. It's also important that I can watch streaming content and—this is a big one—actually turn the tablet completely off; I really can't stand my Kindle's limitations! I'd love to access apps, e-readers, and writing software without needing an internet connection. On top of all that, it would be great if the tablet had features for e-reading, reducing eye strain similar to a Kindle Paperwhite. I'd appreciate any recommendations on what to look for in terms of specs and functionality! Thanks in advance!

There's a TCL NextPaper tablet bundle on sale on Amazon that might fit your needs! Just remember that if you're specifically looking for an optimized reading experience like the Kindle Paperwhite, e-readers and tablets serve different purposes. E-readers use e-ink to reduce glare and eye strain, and they can't handle videos well; tablets are excellent for streaming but might be harder on the eyes for long reading sessions. Just keep that in mind when making your choice!

I've had a really positive experience with my ONN 12" Pro, and it's only around $179. It's budget-friendly and does what I need without any fuss.

Consider checking out the Lenovo Chromebook Duet or its Windows version; both are under $500. Just make sure you're okay with an 11" screen size. If you get one of these, I'd suggest skipping the manufacturer’s keyboard and going for a more affordable USB one instead. A good protective case is a must, even if you plan to keep it at home.

For your needs, I highly recommend the base model iPad priced at $349. It meets all your requirements: you can browse the web quickly through Wi-Fi, and it pairs well with Bluetooth keyboards (though I agree, the Apple keyboard is pricey). Most of the popular writing apps like Pages and Word can work offline, so you’re covered there. And while the iPad won't match the reading quality of an e-ink Kindle, many people still enjoy reading on it because of its bright screen and clarity. Plus, you can access tons of games and streaming services, and the built-in Safari browser is excellent for web surfing!

I have a Galaxy Tab S9 that I absolutely love! Mine has 256GB of storage and doesn't have a SIM card slot since I just use it with my phone's hotspot. The screen is great for streaming, and the battery life has been solid. It handles all my needs perfectly.
