Hey everyone, I'm facing an issue while upgrading the SSD on my Surface Pro 8. It originally came with a 128GB SSD, and I'm trying to replace it with a 500GB WD_Black drive from Sandisk, which should be compatible. I've followed Microsoft's guidelines by downloading the Surface recovery image and creating a recovery drive from my laptop. I then copied the recovery image onto the USB drive. However, when I attempt to reboot the Surface with the USB plugged in, it continually fails to reboot. I've done this process successfully before, so I'm at a loss as to why it's not working now. Just to clarify, the USB is properly formatted to FAT32. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Surfaces can be really particular about the SSDs they work with. I've always had better luck using Samsung SSDs for replacements. Have you thought about using a Windows Media installation USB instead of the recovery image? I've switched to that method, and it makes the bare metal install much smoother.
I haven't tried that yet. How do I create a Windows Media installation USB? Is there a guide on Microsoft's site?
