I'm experiencing some frustrating crashes with my 1st Gen 12700K processor, and I'm considering upgrading to the 14700K. I'm wondering if I need to reinstall Windows after I swap out the CPUs, or can I just make the change and keep playing?

You don't need to reinstall Windows when you upgrade to the 14700K. Just make sure to update your BIOS first. But keep in mind that your crashes might not be related to the CPU itself, so it could be worth investigating that further.

Just a heads up: after swapping CPUs, don’t forget to check your BIOS settings. Ensure XMP is disabled during the upgrade process and then you can enable it after everything is running smoothly.

Upgrading to the 14700K might be a good move, but keep in mind that some of these newer 13th and 14th gen models can have issues with degradation over time. A 14600K could be a safer bet, especially if you're looking at used parts.

It's pretty straightforward! Booting into Windows should be fine after the swap. Just ensure your cooling solution is adequate and update your BIOS before changing the CPU.

No need to worry about a Windows reinstall. Just swap the CPUs and you should be good to go! Just remember to disable or suspend Bitlocker if you have it enabled.
