I'm currently interning and I've been tasked with a project involving network component monitoring, and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed about which tool to select. I'm looking at options like Nagios Core, Check_MK, Pandora FMS, and Zabbix. It's important for me to monitor not just network components but also servers and cameras. I've done some research into paid options too, but I'm not sure if the company or I would be responsible for the costs. I'd love to hear about your experiences and any recommendations you might have. Thanks in advance!

I recommend starting with the Check_MK community edition. It's free and can monitor a wide range of devices including servers, printers, cameras, and more. Plus, it comes with over 3000 default plugins and has secure communication. It’s a comprehensive solution that integrates well with different systems.
Check_MK is the way to go! I've been using it for a couple of years primarily for monitoring SNMP pings and outages. It allows for very detailed monitoring and is free for a decent number of sensors—around 600-700, I believe. It's definitely a solid choice.
Don’t overthink it too much for your short internship. Zabbix is a solid choice and quite popular. It provides a good overview for monitoring servers and cameras. Check_MK, on the other hand, is often quicker to set up and user-friendly with its auto-discovery feature. I’m a bit biased, but if you can, I’d definitely lean towards Check_MK!
