What Should I Do After My Computer Shut Down During a Windows 11 Update?

I accidentally knocked my computer's extension cord, causing it to turn off while it was updating Windows 11. After a few restarts, I managed to log back in and ran the 'sfc /scannow' tool. Now I'm worried—did that mess it up? I haven't dared to turn it off again to see if it will boot up. My apps and internet seem to be working fine, but I'm terrified of shutting it down completely. Am I in trouble or will it be okay?

Dude, it should be fine! Usually, if a Windows update fails, it rolls back to the previous state or boots in safe mode. You can also check your update history to see if any updates were marked as 'Failed'. It's mostly a software hiccup, not a hardware one.

Make sure to give your system a thorough disk scan before you restart or update again. You might also consider creating a bootable USB just in case you need to repair or reinstall later. Better safe than sorry!

You're probably in the clear! Windows updates typically don't affect hardware, just the software. Back up your important files just in case, though. Worst-case scenario, you might have to reinstall Windows, but it sounds like your system should be okay.

Should I try turning it off to see if it starts up again or just keep it in sleep mode for now?

If you're feeling risky, turning it off could be a good test. Just make sure you've backed up anything vital!

Yeah, since this was just a Windows update, not a BIOS one, you should be alright. Power outages during BIOS updates are risky, but for regular OS updates, you just need to worry about some Windows files. If it turned on at least once, that’s a good sign!
