Which CPU should I upgrade to for Windows 11?

I built my PC about 8 years ago, and I've been getting notifications to upgrade to Windows 11 since support for Windows 10 is ending. Unfortunately, my AMD Ryzen 5 1400 doesn't meet the requirements for Windows 11. I've considered building a new computer, but I'm shocked by the current prices and would rather upgrade my existing setup for now. My PC is primarily used for light productivity, video chats during online RPGs, and as a modest media server running Jellyfin. I'm looking to upgrade my CPU to ensure compatibility with Windows 11 and extend the life of my machine. Here are my current specs:

- AMD Ryzen 5 1400 Quad Core Processor
- NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1060 3GB
- 500GB SSD Samsung 850 Evo
- 1TB HDD WD10EZEX
- ASRock AB350M Pro4 AM4 MicroATX
- Team T-Force Vulcan 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4
- SeaSonic S12G-550W ATX12V PSU

I'm not too worried about spending too much, as I considered building a new rig, but I'd like to keep my budget around $250 to $450 for this upgrade. Any advice on which CPU I should go for and any potential issues to watch out for would be greatly appreciated!

I think the Ryzen 5 2600 is a solid choice for getting started with Windows 11. Just make sure to update your ASRock AB350M Pro4 BIOS to version P4.70 first. If the budget allows, consider going for a Ryzen 5 5000 series CPU instead, as it would give you a much better performance boost. For basic gaming, you might want an older GPU with 6 or 8 GB of VRAM, which could help keep costs down.

Thanks for the suggestions! I updated my post to clarify my budget. I don’t plan on doing much gaming, so I’m okay if the upgrade doesn't support very recent games.
