I've been having issues with my Samsung A14, which I've had for about 3-4 years. Lately, two of my favorite games have been crashing quite frequently. I restarted my phone after a long time, which helped for a week or so. I also cleared off old photos and deleted apps I wasn't using. To minimize interruptions, I turned off most app notifications since I noticed they often coincided with the crashes. Additionally, I stopped a background app related to home security because it was causing lag on my home screen. I've made sure my phone and all apps, including the games, are up to date and even reinstalled the problematic ones. Still, I'm at a loss for what else to try. Is this just how phones are designed now? It feels like I have to replace mine every five years, either because it's too outdated for new apps or slows down too much for my needs.

Honestly, buying an A-series Samsung might not have been the best call. They tend to be lower quality, and that's why they're cheaper. Higher-end phones perform much better for gaming.
Make sure both your device and the games are fully updated. That's typically the first thing to check when you run into issues like this.
I've done both already! Reinstalled the games as well.
Cheap phones simply don’t last as long, unfortunately. Your A14 is relatively new, but its specs are low, so it's going to struggle with gaming sooner than a flagship would.

I know, but I had limited options and couldn’t afford anything more. I was on a really tight budget.
