Need Help with My First PC Build for Gaming and Day Trading

I'm planning to build my first PC mainly for playing Fortnite and doing day trading using platforms like Quantower and ThinkorSwim. I'm also interested in gaming titles like CS2, Valorant, and Apex Legends down the line. My goal is to run Fortnite at 1440p with 240+ fps (performance mode, low settings). I'm not a pro, but I do enjoy competing in weekly tournaments, so I'm looking for something better than a casual setup.

For the CPU, I'm considering either the 7800x3d or the 9800x3d, but I'm leaning towards the 9800x3d since the price difference is under $100.

For the GPU, I'm looking at the 9070XT but need help selecting the right model with the best specs and branding on PCPartPicker.

I'm confident about those two components, but I could really use assistance with everything else like the PSU, motherboard, RAM, SSD, case, and cooler.

I'm aiming to keep the total cost under $3000 and live in the United States, where I can have the parts shipped to my house. The closest Microcenter is about four hours away, so that's not really an option for me. I don't need any peripherals. Thanks for any help!

If you're looking to maximize performance and longevity, going a bit overkill on the PSU is definitely smart! A 1050W PSU gives you more room for future upgrades.

For the cooler, I think an air cooler will serve you just fine and is generally more reliable over the long term. If the case aesthetics aren't a big concern, focus on one that has good airflow to keep your components cool. Let me know if you want recommendations on specific models!

Great tips! I agree that keeping it simple with a good air cooler makes sense. Appreciate the help and I'll look into the cases with better airflow!

Hey! For your build, if you're looking for high performance, the 9800x3d is a solid choice. Regarding the 9070XT, I'd recommend checking out a specific model on PCPartPicker to compare brands and prices. Most of the major brands like ASUS or MSI usually have good options.

As for the motherboard, a good choice would be one that supports WiFi 7 and has PCIe 5 for upgrades later on. Just a heads up, you might need to update the BIOS for the 9800, but it's usually straightforward. There are plenty of how-to videos out there that can help you out!

For your RAM, 32GB at 6000MHz CL36 should be perfectly fine for gaming. Some sites may recommend 64GB, but that often overestimates what's needed for gaming alone—you're safe with 32GB!

Thanks for the reply! Updating the BIOS sounds a bit daunting since I've never done it before. Is it complicated? Also, I've seen conflicting advice on RAM speed—should I worry about CL30 vs. CL36? Just curious if the extra performance is worth it.

I understand your worries about the 9070XT—some users have reported driver issues. It's a solid card overall, but if you're feeling uncertain, you might want to look into the 5070TI as an alternative. It could be worth the investment if it performs better in real-world scenarios!
