I'm new to Linux and trying to figure out the best distro for an old laptop I have from the Vista era, which currently has Windows 7 installed. Here are the specs: Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 at 1.4GHz, 3GB of DDR3 RAM, a 250GB HDD, and Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics. I'm considering Linux Mint, but there seems to be some conflicting info on whether it will work well with my laptop's specs. Anyone have suggestions for lighter distros that would run smoothly? Thanks!

You should definitely consider AntiX if you're worried about performance! It's lightweight and works well with older hardware. I think you'll have a good experience with it.
Stay away from large language models forLinux advice. They might not give reliable guidance. Check out lightweight options like MX or older distros that use sysvinit. Stick to a desktop environment like XFCE or LXQt for smoother performance.
Thanks for the heads up! I’ll focus on those lightweight distros.
I agree with AntiX! It's an excellent choice for older laptops, plus it'd handle your specs just fine. Alternatively, you might want to look into Xubuntu, which is also lightweight and user-friendly.
Appreciate the advice! I'll compare AntiX and Xubuntu.
I think Xubuntu would be great for you! It's Ubuntu-based but lighter with the XFCE desktop. I used it on an older Celeron laptop, and it ran surprisingly well. You might also look into Mint with the XFCE desktop if you prefer something a bit more modern looking.
Thanks! I didn’t realize Xubuntu would be so effective on older hardware.
With a second-generation Core 2 Duo, you've got some options! A lightweight distribution is the way to go. Websites like Distrowatch or Distrochooser can help you find good candidates. Just download and try a few out on a USB stick before committing!

Thanks for the quick suggestion! I'll check out AntiX.
