Can I get Activation Lock removed at the Apple Store where I bought my MacBook?

Hey folks! I need some advice on getting past an Activation Lock on my MacBook. I purchased it in April 2022 from an Apple Store, but I've lost the original receipt. I'm curious if I can just walk into that store and have them pull up my purchase info to prove I'm the original owner.

Here are a few things I want to know:
1. Is Apple able to access purchase records that go back to April 2022?
2. Can they use that info to remove the Activation Lock on the spot, or is there a more complicated verification process?
3. Will an appointment at the Genius Bar be enough to resolve the issue, or will they direct me to online support?

Has anyone had a similar experience or knows what this process entails?

Yes, Apple can definitely help you with that! They keep purchase records for quite a while, so they should still have yours. Keep in mind, though, they might make you try the Activation Lock self-service portal first before anything else happens. If you meet with a manager, they might be able to bypass that, but just be prepared for it. As far as timing goes, it might take a bit, but generally, they work to resolve issues at the store as much as they can.

If they do make you use the self portal first, how long do you think it’ll take to hear back? I’ve got an important exam in just 10 days, so I’m stressing a bit.
