What Should I Do After Dropping My iPhone in Water?

I accidentally dropped my iPhone into a sink full of water while doing the dishes. It was underwater for about 3 seconds before I took it out. After that, I used a water removal app, and the phone seems to be functioning normally now. However, I'm worried about charging it. I visited a phone repair shop, and the technician suggested that the phone should be opened up and dried from the inside. Is that really necessary, and can I trust him?

Don’t stress too much! The water removal sound can help, and if the phone is working fine now, it’s likely okay. I’d recommend just checking the charging port; if it’s dry, you should be good to go!

That sounds right! I've seen videos where people find iPhones after weeks underwater, and most still work—3 seconds is nothing!

If your phone seems to be working fine, you probably don’t need to have it opened up. Most modern iPhones have an IP67 rating, which means they can withstand being submerged in water for a short time. Just make sure there’s no water in the charging port before plugging it in, since the phone will actually disable charging if it detects water.

Good point! I have an iPhone too and it survived a similar accident. Just be careful with charging, wait until you're sure everything is dry.

If it were me, I’d lean towards trusting your instincts. The tech might be trying to upsell a repair that you don’t necessarily need. Just ensure the phone is completely dry and it should be fine to charge. If in doubt, maybe look for a second opinion from another tech.

Solid advice! I'd also suggest checking online reviews for any repair shop before you go.

Your iPhone is probably fine, and it shouldn’t need opening unless you're experiencing issues. Technicians sometimes suggest repairs just to cover their bases, but unless you notice any problems, you're likely overcomplicating things. Just keep an eye on it!

Exactly, if it's still working normally, I wouldn't worry about opening it up!
