How to Connect My Work PC to My Personal HDMI Monitors?

I've set up a work PC in a cramped corner of my house, and I'm trying to get it to display on my personal monitors to save space. The monitors only have HDMI inputs, but the cables from the work PC look like DisplayPort on one end and VGA on the other. I've purchased two different adapters: the first one to convert from VGA to HDMI directly, and the second one to link the VGA cable from the PC with the HDMI adapter. Despite my efforts, nothing seems to work! Is there something I might be missing?

It sounds like you might need to check which ports are actually on your work PC. If you can, take a pic of the ports to confirm. Usually, modern PCs shouldn't just have VGA unless they've been around forever. If your monitors need HDMI, you'll want a direct converter from the port your PC has to HDMI. If it's VGA to HDMI, make sure to use an active converter, as these often require extra power via USB to function properly.

A well-rated solution would be to grab a docking station with the same input your monitors require. Plug the docking station into your PC, and your displays should work nicely from there! Just a heads up though, if you don't have admin rights on your work PC, this might not go as planned.

Do either of the devices have USB ports? If so, using a USB connection could be an option since many adapters are versatile and should be easy to find.

Actually, a work PC can display on personal monitors, that's a common setup! Just because it’s a work machine doesn’t mean you can't use it with your gear. Make sure you're using the right adapters!
