I've mainly been a PC and PS5 gamer, but I'm planning to move fully to PC gaming around 2028. I'm not very familiar with PC hardware, so I'm hoping to get some advice before I start saving for upgrades.
My current system has:
- AMD Ryzen 7 7700
- 32 GB of RAM
- Radeon RX 7800 XT with 16 GB of VRAM
- Integrated AMD Radeon graphics
- AMD Wraith Prism CPU cooler
I mostly play games rather than using the computer for productivity. Are these parts still considered good, and should I expect to upgrade anything soon? I'm especially unsure how well this system will handle newer games over the next few years. My monitor resolution and refresh rate may also affect the answer, so I'm open to recommendations there too.

That’s a very capable gaming PC. The Ryzen 7 7700 and RX 7800 XT should handle current games well, and there’s no urgent reason to upgrade unless you’re targeting 4K, extremely high refresh rates, or a particular demanding game. Reassess closer to 2028 rather than buying parts now.
The biggest factor is your monitor. This setup is a great match for 1440p gaming, including high settings and high refresh rates. At 4K, you may eventually want a faster graphics card, but you can use upscaling features when needed. Also check that your power supply is a good-quality 750W or 850W unit.
The only part I’d consider changing sooner is the Wraith Prism cooler. It can work, but a decent tower air cooler would usually run quieter and keep the processor cooler. Otherwise, the platform gives you a useful future upgrade path, including a stronger AM5 gaming CPU later on.
Thirty-two gigabytes of RAM is still enough for gaming, but 64 GB could be a reasonable optional upgrade if you find a good deal. Some newer games are starting to recommend 32 GB, so extra memory may help with future-proofing, though it isn’t necessary right now.
