Is it worth upgrading to AM5 or should I just max out AM4 with a new motherboard?

Hey everyone, I could really use your thoughts on my current setup and future upgrade plans. I recently put together this build (link to PCPartPicker list). I'm running a 1440p monitor and am saving up for a high-end GPU, looking at options like the 4070 Ti, 4080 Super, or even the 4090. However, I'm a bit worried that my current motherboard won't hold up with such powerful parts. I'm considering whether I should save to upgrade to an AM5 or if I should just max out my existing AM4 setup with a better motherboard. What do you think?

Definitely go for AM5. With a GPU like the 4080 or 4090, you’ll definitely want a 7800X3D to keep up.

Honestly, I think it's time to switch to AM5. The best time to max out AM4 was probably a year ago. Also, keep in mind that 4000 series GPUs are hard to find new now; you might be better off just upgrading your GPU first—something like a 5600X + 32GB of RAM is still a solid build. You could always save up for an AM5 later.

Good point! I hope these cards won't have any issues running with a B450.

Your current board can handle a 5700X3D and a new GPU without breaking a sweat.

Your B450 board should handle a 5700X3D and a solid GPU like the 4080 or even a 5070 Ti without problems, but think about the price of the 5800X3D. They’re becoming rare and pricey! You might want to compare prices for the 40 series and 50 series GPUs with AMD’s 9000 series as well. There's some good benchmark info available if you want to look into it further.

If you're planning to change your motherboard anyway, you might as well just go for AM5. It seems like a better investment in the long run.

That's true, but my B450 board makes me wonder if it'll even support those parts properly!

Just a heads up, finding those GPUs is going to be a challenge since they haven't been produced for months now.

Yikes! I actually saw some new stock at shops near me.
