Hey everyone! I'm looking to build my first gaming PC and could really use your advice. I mainly play games like POE 2 and souls like titles, and I'll be diving into Expedition soon. My goal is to run these games at very high or ultra settings with 1440p resolution and aiming for 100+ fps. I've set a budget of about $2.5k to $3k for just the PC. Is that reasonable? I could stretch my budget if necessary, but I'd prefer not to.
Cooling is super important to me because my girlfriend insists on it, or I'll be in big trouble. I'd rather not sacrifice performance for lower settings. I don't have a strong preference between AMD and Nvidia—I'm just looking for whatever provides great performance and is somewhat future-proof.
If you could share your own PC build as an example, that would be really helpful, especially to ensure all the parts are compatible. Also, I'm not familiar with upscaling, DLSS, and all that jazz, so any tips would be appreciated! Thanks a ton!

You could actually build a solid 1440p setup for around $1k to $1.5k, so your budget of $2.5k to $3k is definitely reasonable! For future-proofing, I suggest going with an AMD AM5 setup. Check out CPUs like the 9800x3d or the 7800x3d for top performance. If you want to save, you can start with a cheaper CPU and upgrade later on. Oh, and there’s a great pinned post on /r/buildapcforme that can guide you through building a compatible setup.
For a cool and powerful setup, consider the Ryzen 5 9600x. It runs efficiently and stays cool. Pair it with a b650m motherboard, 32GB of 6000MHz RAM, and a 1TB M.2 SSD. For a GPU, you might look at either an RTX 4070 or RX 7700XT; both are solid choices. Don't forget, you can undervolt the CPU and GPU to help keep temperatures down without losing performance!
Quick question: Is the Ryzen 7 7800x3D better than the Ryzen 5 9600x?
Thanks a lot for your insight! I didn't realize I could get away with a lower budget!
