Why Are My Games Extremely Laggy on Windows After Switching From Linux?

I recently switched my Sword 16 HX B14VFK laptop from Linux back to Windows, and nearly every game now runs with extremely poor performance unless it is exceptionally lightweight. The same hardware handled these games normally under Linux, so I suspect this may be a driver, power-setting, or GPU-selection issue rather than a hardware failure. The laptop has 16 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, and an Intel Core i7-14650HX. What should I check to find out why Windows is not delivering the expected gaming performance?

Since this is a gaming laptop, Windows may be running the games on the integrated graphics instead of the RTX 4060. Check Task Manager while a game is running and see whether the NVIDIA GPU shows activity. You can also go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics, select the game, choose Options, and set it to High performance. In the NVIDIA Control Panel, make sure the preferred graphics processor is the high-performance NVIDIA GPU. Also install the latest NVIDIA laptop drivers and keep the charger plugged in.

More system details help, but the listed hardware should run most games well. Verify that Windows has the correct chipset and NVIDIA drivers rather than generic ones, and check the laptop's power mode. Set Windows to Best performance and use the manufacturer's performance mode if the laptop has one. A missing or incorrect driver after switching operating systems can cause very low frame rates.
