How should I plan my first high-end PC build for gaming, editing, and streaming?

I'm completely new to computers and want to make building my first PC my next project. I'm still learning the terminology and don't know which parts I need or how to choose between them. My main goals are strong gaming performance, video and photo editing, and possibly streaming in the future. I'd also like the finished system to have a clean, attractive aesthetic. I haven't settled on a budget yet, but I'm willing to spend significantly for a powerful, well-balanced build. Where should I begin, and what should I consider before buying anything?

Prices and availability can change quickly, so compare several reputable retailers and be cautious of unusually cheap listings from unfamiliar sellers. Keep receipts and warranty information. Once you have a budget and target performance, share a draft parts list for compatibility and value checks before ordering.

Start by deciding on a realistic budget and sharing your country, since component prices and availability vary a lot. You should also define the games you play, target resolution, desired frame rate, editing software, and how large your projects are. A high-end system for competitive 1080p gaming can look very different from one intended for 4K gaming and professional editing.

Don’t overlook the display and the overall balance of the system. An IPS monitor is usually a solid compromise for gaming and editing, while OLED offers excellent contrast and response time at a higher price. For streaming from one PC, a good microphone and hardware encoding from the graphics card may be enough; a second computer is not necessary for most beginners. For appearance, choose a color theme and make sure the case, cooling, cables, and components complement one another.

For a current build, look at a recent AMD platform if you want a good upgrade path. AMD processors paired with Nvidia graphics cards are often chosen for strong overall performance and useful software features, while an AMD processor and graphics card combination can offer good value. Compare independent benchmarks for the games and editing applications you use rather than relying on a single recommended parts list.

Try planning a parts list with a compatibility tool such as PCPartPicker. The main components are the CPU, CPU cooler, motherboard, graphics card, memory, storage, power supply, and case. You’ll also need to account for a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and possibly a microphone, webcam, speakers, or headset. Build around your actual needs instead of buying the most expensive parts for every possible future use.
