What ticketing and asset management system can separate IT and Facilities?

We're evaluating a system for both IT and Facilities that can handle help-desk tickets and asset management in one workflow. We need customizable fields, Excel-compatible exports, QR-code asset tagging, and SSO. The most important requirement is strict separation between departments so IT users cannot view Facilities assets or tickets, and vice versa. Has anyone implemented something similar, and which platforms worked well?

Jira Service Management with its asset features can meet these requirements, including custom asset types, SSO, workflows, and access-controlled spaces for different departments. The downside is complexity and cost: the useful capabilities often depend on adopting additional products or paid add-ons, and the initial configuration can be substantial. It is best suited to organizations prepared to administer the wider ecosystem.

A two-product setup can be more flexible: use Snipe-IT for assets and pair it with a ticketing platform such as Jira Service Management, Freshservice, or osTicket. Snipe-IT is popular for QR labels, depreciation, maintenance notes, custom asset data, and self-hosting. Just verify multi-department visibility and authentication requirements in your environment, especially if you have more than one directory.

TeamDynamix, HaloITSM, ServiceNow, and IncidentIQ are also worth comparing if you need a more complete enterprise or multi-department service platform. ServiceNow is powerful but usually expensive and resource-intensive. Whichever product you shortlist, make the vendor demonstrate the exact permission model: separate ticket queues, asset visibility, reporting access, exports, QR workflows, and administrator boundaries—not just basic agent roles.

GLPI is worth investigating if you want an all-in-one, self-hosted option. It can cover ticketing, inventory, custom fields, asset tags, authentication, and reporting without licensing costs. The tradeoff is that setup and administration can take a fair amount of time, so test the department-level permissions carefully before committing.

Freshservice is a solid paid option and handles both service management and inventory in one product. It supports SSO, custom fields, reporting, and separate service workflows. Confirm the asset-management pricing and make sure its role and department permissions provide the isolation you need. It is generally easier to deploy than a heavily customized platform, though API rate limits may matter if you plan many integrations.
