HP Envy x360 Battery Drops 1% per Minute—Is the Battery Failing?

Generate a report from an administrator Command Prompt with `powercfg /batteryreport`, then open the HTML file it creates. Compare the original design capacity with the full-charge capacity and review the recent usage history. If the full-charge figure is far below the design figure, replace the battery; if it’s still close, investigate background processes and calibration instead.

Run Windows’ battery report or HP’s built-in battery diagnostic first. The report will show the design capacity versus the current full-charge capacity. If the current capacity is dramatically lower—especially below roughly half of the original capacity—the battery is likely worn out and replacing it should be much cheaper than replacing the laptop.

The drop from 20% to 0% could be a calibration problem, but losing 1% per minute with nothing running points more strongly to a failing battery. A battery that sat unused for months can deteriorate, and a damaged cell can make the percentage indicator inaccurate. If the health report shows a normal capacity, check Task Manager for unusually high CPU or GPU usage before buying a replacement.

It’s also worth checking whether a recent Windows, BIOS, or power-management update caused the behavior. Look at the update history and install the latest HP firmware and chipset or battery drivers from HP’s support page. However, software issues usually affect charging or reporting rather than causing a genuinely healthy battery to empty this quickly.
