I recently sold a Nubia Neo 3 (Z2461) and want to know whether my old files could realistically be recovered. Before resetting it, I moved my photos, videos, and sensitive documents from internal storage to an SD card, which I removed and kept. I also transferred some files to another device using LocalSend, removed my Google and other accounts, and performed a factory reset. After using the phone lightly for a while, I completed several more factory resets before handing it over. Since modern Android phones generally use hardware-backed file-based encryption, does a factory reset destroy the encryption keys and make the old internal data unusable? Could tools such as DiskDigger or desktop recovery software recover anything?

Android’s encryption is designed so that a reset can cryptographically erase access to the old data by destroying the encryption keys. Even before the reset, recovering protected files without the device credentials would be extremely difficult. After the reset, ordinary recovery tools such as DiskDigger are not going to reconstruct your old photos and documents. The only separate concern would be copies stored on another device or an unencrypted removable card.
On a modern Android phone with encryption enabled, a factory reset removes the keys needed to decrypt the old internal storage. Someone might technically find encrypted remnants on the flash chip, but without those keys the files are effectively unreadable. Recovery apps generally cannot bypass that.
The odds are extraordinarily low that the buyer could recover anything. They would need specialized access, the right hardware and software, and a way around the phone’s encryption. Repeated resets are not normally necessary, but they do not make the situation worse. The SD card is a separate matter, and since you removed it and kept it, it is not in the phone.
So there isn’t really a point where the files suddenly become readable again later?
