How can I make iPhone password autofill require my passcode again?

I'm using an iPhone 11 on iOS 18.7.7. After going four years without Face ID, I enabled it last week and chose the option to use Face ID for password autofill. Before that, my iPhone required me to enter its passcode whenever I autofilled a saved password. I've since removed Face ID, but password autofill now fills passwords without asking for my passcode. How can I restore the previous behavior so autofill requires my iPhone passcode every time?

Removing Face ID should disable Face ID authentication, but it doesn’t necessarily force iOS to request the passcode before every autofill. Make sure the device passcode is still enabled and check the Passwords and AutoFill settings. If there’s no option to require authentication, this may be an iOS behavior or glitch rather than a missing Face ID setting.

Check Settings > Face ID & Passcode and look for the Password AutoFill option. Also check Settings > General > AutoFill & Passwords to make sure the expected password provider is enabled. If the setting seems stuck after removing Face ID, try turning Password AutoFill off and back on, then restart the iPhone.
