I recently built my first PC with a friend who has more experience. Here are the specs:
- GPU: Nvidia RTX 5070
- CPU: Intel i7 14700K
- PSU: Corsair RM750e
- Case: NZXT H5 Flow V2
- Motherboard: MSI B760 Gaming Plus WiFi
- CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 2x16GB
Right after the build, I noticed some concerning noises:
1. My GPU was making a sound that I think is coil whine, and it got so loud it could be heard from outside the room while under heavy load. There's also a weird sound coming from my left headphone speaker when it happens.
2. The case fans started making a single tone noise, but I fixed that by adjusting their RPMs in the BIOS.
3. However, the case fans are now producing a much louder noise, almost like a propeller, even when the system is under low load.
4. The GPU whine has gotten louder and developed into a clicking or tapping noise, which definitely wasn't there before and occurs even when the PC is idle.
I'm worried that something might be broken, potentially the PSU. I feel like my PC is deteriorating just days after the build, and these noises are driving me crazy! Any advice on what could be causing this?

Coil whine is pretty normal, especially with high-end GPUs. However, the clicking and tapping noises could be a sign of a more significant issue. Make sure there’s no debris causing interference with the fans and check if the GPU is seated correctly. If the sounds worry you too much, it might be worth considering an RMA for the GPU or PSU if they keep getting worse.
The Corsair RM750e is known for some odd noises, especially with coil whine. It’s not uncommon for PSUs to make these sounds when under load. Your case fans can also contribute to noise when not configured correctly, but since you've already adjusted their RPMs, monitor them for any excessive noise. I would suggest checking for loose components or cables as well; something might be vibrating against the case.
