I bought a prebuilt gaming computer in 2021 that came with a GeForce RTX 3070, an ASUS G10DK motherboard, and 16GB of DDR4 memory. I later added another 32GB of DDR4 RAM. The original case has poor airflow and build quality, and after upgrading to an RTX 5070 and a 1440p monitor, the processor is creating a noticeable bottleneck. I also suspect the CPU cooler is starting to fail.
I'd like to keep the RTX 5070 and my existing DDR4 memory while replacing the case, CPU, motherboard, and cooler. My total budget is around $1,000, although spending less would be ideal. What CPU and DDR4-compatible motherboard would make the most sense, and which case and CPU cooler would pair well with them?

You don’t need to spend anywhere near the full $1,000. A Core i5-14600KF, Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE, Gigabyte B760M Gaming Plus WiFi DDR4, and a Lian Li Vector V100R Mini case would total roughly $470 based on typical prices. The 14600KF offers a major improvement over the original processor, the Phantom Spirit can handle its heat well, and the motherboard lets you reuse your DDR4 memory. Just remember that the KF chip has no integrated graphics, though that isn’t a problem while using your RTX 5070.
An Intel Core i5-14600K paired with a good B760 motherboard that specifically supports DDR4 would be a strong upgrade. Make sure the board’s product name or specifications clearly say DDR4, since many similar B760 models use DDR5 instead. For cooling, the Thermalright Phantom Spirit is an excellent value. The CPU, board, and cooler should generally come in around $300–$400, leaving plenty of room in the budget for a case.
